Artur Sakunts, Chairman of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor, as the newly-elected president ofthe Group of Public Observers Conducting Monitoring of Penitentiary Institutions (PI) and Agencies of the RA Ministry of Justice expressed the group’s commitment to continue its activity towards improvements in the field, despite numerous obstacles. Artur Sakunts expressed this in a conversation with 1in.am. ‘During the previous term of my presidency, planned visits by the group were fully completed. It is disappointing that issues raised by the group have not been resolved. Unfortunately final resolutions have not been offered, however this cannot cause our observation group to despair and cease its efforts. Nothing can obstruct our mission, and if something does not work out for us today it does not mean that we should be discouraged. Obviously, we will continue working and recording the existing flaws in the penitentiary system. The mandate of the group allows us to be available at any PIanytime and to make observations, thus conducting human rights protection activity,’ summarized Artur Sakunts. We should note that Artur Sakunts, Chairman of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor, was re-elected in the position of the president of the Group of Public Observers Conducting Monitoring of Penitentiary Institutions and Agencies of the RA Ministry of Justice on October 15, 2011, Source: http://www.1in.am
