/2011-August-31/
The drafting of the RA Draft law on “Missing Persons”, concluded in April of 2011, is pending to be approved by the RA Ministry of Justice, which later will be proposed to the hearing of the NA.
Ruzanna Vardanyan, media contact of PR Department of International Committee of the Red Cross representative office in Armenia informed the correspondent of Aysor.am about it. A working group, comprised of representatives of RA National Assembly, President’s staff, Ministry of Defense, Police, SIS, Ministry of Healthcare, Ministry of Labor and Social Issues, HRD, and Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor participated in the drafting of the law. The group was working under direct supervision of the head of the Division of International Organizations of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while ICRC was invited to participate in the sessions of the working group and provide legal consultations to the authors of the draft law. R. Vardanyan notes that the draft law underlies the principles of the head of ICRC directed at legalizing the status of missing persons and their families. The law reflects every detail including provision of special status of missing persons, their fundamental rights and freedoms, searching of missing persons, and interment of their corpses as well as provision of financial compensation to their families. www.aysor.am
