Will a Criminal Case be filed against the Police Officials?

 On June 14, 2011 Judge R. Melkonyan from Dilijan office of Tavoush Region Court of General Jurisdiction satisfied the claim submitted by Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor against the resolution taken by an interrogator of Tavoush Region Investigation Department of RA Police to file a criminal case. The court abrogated the interrogator’s resolution by which the latter refused to file criminal case against Spitak Department police officials who had exerted violence against Gyumri residents Razmik Tonoyan and Armen Melkonyan. It is worth noting that it is the second case when the court abrogated the resolution to refuse filing a criminal case. On March 9, 2010 RA Lori Region Court of General Jurisdiction satisfied the claim submitted by Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor against the Lori Region Investigation Department interrogator for refusing to file a criminal case over the case of physical damage caused to V. Tonoyan. However, no criminal case was initiated with regard to the case.
