Human Rights Protection     Torture     Rights of the Elderly     /2011-May-23/

On May 19 of 2011, the RA Criminal Court of Appeal heard the trial of Garnik Melikyan’s advocate Edmon Marukyan’s claim against the resolution taken by the RA Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts.

On March 25 of 2011 advocate Edmon Marukyan submitted a claim to RA Criminal Court of Appeal against the resolution taken by the RA Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts by which the Court rejected filing a criminal case against the SIS interrogator based on G. Melikyan’s claim, who had been illegally brought to the police department by a police officer.

During the court trial Garnik Melikyan’s advocate Edmon Marukyan presented his claim, while SIS SIC investigator Hovakimyan denied by responding that facts stated by the Garnik Melikyan were not confirmed.

During the trial, the claims submitted by Garnik Melikyan were discussed. Pursuant to one of them, he took back the appealed claim prepared by his advocate based on the materials regarding Z. Tsarukyan from Special Investigative Service and according to another claim he requested not to consider his previous appeal.

The next court trial will be heard on May 27 of 2011.
