Project Targeted at “Reforms in RA Police System”

Since 2011 Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor Office has been implementing “Reforms in RA Police System” project. Within the framework of the project, it is planned to conduct studies in the Police System, elaborate proposals based on them and carry out advocacy according to those proposals. It is anticipated to enroll advocates from Lori, Tavoush and Shirak regions. The advocated will provide legal support to those citizens who were forcefully brought to Police Departments and were subjected to tortures, and to their relatives during personal and apartment searches. With the recruitment of local advocates, it is scheduled to study the activities of Police System in Lori, Tavoush and Shirak regions and collect information regarding arrested, detained and interrogated individuals by interviews with their relatives and advocates as well as visits to Police Departments. Within the frames of the project, a package of proposals will be elaborated regarding the reforms in the Police System by means of obtained data. Citizens, who have encountered any illegalities in the RA Police System, can call toll-free hotline at 0 8000 1211 within the whole duration of the project. “Reforms in RA Police System” project is being carried out by Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor Office with the financial support of Norwegian Helsinki Committee.
