The NGOs Turned to Court of Appeal


On March 25 of 2011, Arman Danielyan- head of “Civil Society Institute” NGO, Avetik Ishkhanyan- head of “Armenian Helsinki Committee” NGO and Artur Sakunts- president of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor Office submitted a claim to the RA Court of Appeal against the resolution taken by the RA Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts. 

On January 18 of 2011, the RA Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts rejected the claim initiated by the presidents of the aforementioned right-protective NGOs against the RA Prosecutor General’s Office. 

The heads of “Civil Society Institute”, “Armenian Helsinki Committee” and Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor Office claim to bring up a criminal case against the Deputy of RA Prosecutor General’s office and head of “Nubarashen” detention facility regarding the fact that citizen Sargis Poghosyan was illegally keep in custody from August 5 till September 1 of 2010 without court’s resolution based on the written testimony of Deputy of RA Prosecutor General and was released on his order. 

NGO representative Edmon Marukyan claims that the RA Court of Appeal should try the case and abrogate the resolution taken by RA Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts on January 18 of 2011 and adopt a new decision to oblige the RA Prosecutor General to initiate a criminal case against the Deputy of Prosecutor General’s office and head of “Nubarashen” detention facility based on the claim submitted by the human rights activists.
