Parallel to the Seminar

Human Rights Protection     RIght to Movement     Right to Assembly     Police     /2010-November-09/

A 2-day seminar of EU-Armenia on the “Right to a Fair Trial and Independence of the Judiciary” was held at the (“Golden Tulip”) “Yerevan” hotel on November 9, 2010.

Armenian National Congress activists were holing a piquet in the adjacent premises of the hotel parallel to the seminar, during which, according to A1+, 4 activists were forcefully taken to the Central Division of Yerevan Police Administration.

The activists were confiscated when they refused to vacate the adjacent hotel area.
According to the seminar participant Haykuhi Harutyunyan - a member of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor, the police have surrounded the adjacent premise, by limiting the citizens’ right to mobility in the territory of “Moskva” Cinema.

H. Harutyunyan attempted to identify the cause for blockage from a police officer, but the latter replied,-”It is none of our business, you’d better ask the Government”.
Several NGO representatives from the seminar participants have elaborated a promulgation expressing their concerns about the occurrence and addressing the government to respect the freedom for rallies.

Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor has also joined the promulgation.
