Statement in support of Nikol Pashinyan

Human Rights Protection     Rights of the Elderly     Announcements     /2010-January-26/

On January 19, 2010 the court of Yerevan Center and Nork Marash sentenced editor-in-chief of “Haykakan Zhamanak” daily Nikol Pashinyan to a 7-year imprisonment. During the whole trial, there was no justification that he organized mass riots.

Moreover, he was accused of the same thing, which had been brought against the other seven political prisoners of the representatives of the opposition. And based on it, six of them got less and then they were released by amnesty.

This verdict is not a legal decision but it is an act of political pursuit. A crime against justice was performed which is criminally punishable.

The authorities of Armenia have to ensure fair trial and they must not put the liability for the crime committed against citizens on March 1, 2008 on the opposition, on Nikol Pashinyan and the other political prisoners.

We demand to stop the political and obviously criminal pursuit against Nikol Pashinyan and set him free.
