The Reports Were Presented to Society

On July 1, 2009 the presentation of the reports on “The Results of 2008 Spring and Fall Call-up in Lori Region” and “Human Rights Situation in Lori Region in 2008” took place in Yerevan.

They were published within the projects “Formation of Civil Control over Recruitment” and “Capacity Building of HCA Vanadzor in the Sphere of Human Rights” implemented by HCA Vanadzor with support of Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation-Armenia.


The representatives FROM local and international organizations, media, RA Ministry of Defence, Republican Military Commissariat and Military Commissariats of Lori region participated in the presentation.
  The coordinator of HCA Vanadzor, Artur Sakunts, presented the results of the monitoring of call-up within the framework of which interviews with the recruits and their families had been conducted. He pointed out the importance of TV programs as another source of getting information.
  He presented the revealed problems related to the procedure of medical examination, impossibility of getting the medical conclusions, etc.
  The results of monitoring showed that it really has impact on the recruitment process.
Recommendations have been made for improvement, which include awareness raising on the rights and obligations of recruits, clarification of the list of required documents, provision of the medical conclusions to the recruits.
  The participants asked their questions which mainly concerned corruption risks occurring during recruitment and the results of the monitoring.
  The third report on “Human Rights Situation in Lori Region in 2008” was also presented on that day so that society has a clear picture on the situation of human rights in Armenia.
