Police Civil Control Announcements

The police of the Republic of Armenia hinder the citizens of RA to exercise their constitutional right to freely spread information.It happened on August 18, 2007, in the stadium after V. Sargsyan, during the opening ceremony of the 4th Pan-Armenian Games, when a group of active citizens disseminated leaflets with the photos of political prisoners Zhirayr Sefilyan, Vardan Malkhasyan, Alexandr Arzumanyan and Arman Babajanyan and with the demand to immediately set them free. The policemen, including the high ranking ones, surrounded them and took the leaflets with force. Moreover, they illegally have brought some of them to the police station and have kept some of them in the stadium for several hours. We condemn this violent action against citizens’ constitutional rights by law enforcement bodies and demand to call the law enforcement employees for the misuse of powers.
