Isolated Civilization

Support for civil iniciatives     Advocacy     /2006-June-23/

On June 15, a TV discussion took place on Lori-TV on “Health Problems of the Residents of Temporary Dwellings”. It was organized within the framework of the project “Isolated Civilization”.

The coordinator of HCA Vanadzor Arthur Sakunts and the residents of the temporary dwellings participated in the TV program.
Robert Dilbaryan-the head of the healthcare department of Lori region administration, Sonya Arushanyan-the director of the 4th polyclinic, Marina Simonyan - the director of “Gugark” polyclinic had also been invited to the TV discussion, but they did not come to the TV discussion. However, the questions addressed to them will be sent to them in written, and the answers will be publicized.
The results of the survey carried out by HCA Vanadzor show that 40% of the residents of the temporary dwellings suffer from chronic diseases, but 70% of them cannot get medical treatment.
What problems do these people face? Who do they apply to and what answers do they get?
Some of the residents of temporary dwellings complain that they can’t get medicine, some say that getting medical treatment is not available for them.
Some people who have different kinds of illnesses have problems in the definition of disability category.
The residents of the temporary dwellings were interested in how the list of those making use of free medical service were defined and managed.
The residents of the temporary dwellings got the impression that disabled people are expelled from healthy society, whereas in foreign countries they make great efforts to integrate such people in healthy society.
Psychological problems of the children of temporary dwellings make a separate part of problems. The residents think that psychologists should work with children. According to them, the state is not interested in such issues. The citizens who applied to state employees for support got the answer “If you cannot take care of your children, don’t have them”.
Three gas-filling stations in the neighborhood have a negative impact on the children’s health. The children often complain of feeling dizzy and being sick. The wandering dogs and cats are very dangerous and they spread the viruses from the garbage, which is a consequence of displacing the temporary dwellings. There are no playgrounds for children in the area of temporary dwellings, and the residents of houses, apartments excel them from their yards.
The participants of the temporary dwellings decided to organize a garbage-cleaning day with their own efforts and with the support of HCA Vanadzor. They also decided to apply to the municipality for carrying the garbage away.
