We Are Against Racism

HCA Vanadzor carries out events in public schools on the International Day for the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination within the European-Wide Action Week Against Racism.

The events aim at raising public awareness on all forms of racial discrimination.

On this occasion, members of HCA Vanadzor, Armine Sadikyan-specialist in peace-building projects, Haykuhi Harutyunyan-coordinator of the department of promotion for civil initiatives and artist Artak Ohanyan visited various public schools of Vanadzor. They held discussions on discrimination, on forms of racial discrimination and the ways to overcome it. Over 60 students of different public schools of Vanadzor were presented the topic during the discussions in their schools; they revealed facts of discrimination and ways how to overcome them. The materials of UNITED were disseminated among them. After the discussions, the artist of HCA Vanadzor worked with about 20 students for two days and with his help, the students were able to express the phenomena of racial discrimination by means of pictures.

On March 19, 2006 the exhibition of caricatures on “We Are Against Racism” devoted to the International Day for the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination was opened in YMCA center of Vanadzor. 24 pictures made by 20 students were displayed. Parents, teachers and citizens visited the exhibition.

Each student presented his picture explaining what he meant by the drawing.

The event was covered by local and national media. Interviews with the organizers and participants were made by Internews-Armenia for a program “We are” to be shown on national TV.

Racism that exists on every level cannot be justified and tolerated. And through this action we tried to speak out and we stressed how important it is to act against racism. Download the Report PDF>>>
